Laver Cup player ratings: How did Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Nick Kyrgios score?

Team Europe won the Laver Cup with a 13-11 victory over Team World and Express Sport has taken a look at every individual performance.

For a third straight year Bjorn Borg’s Europe emerged successful from the exhibition event, which will be added to the ATP calendar from next year.

Each team picks from six of the best players from their designated region and a victory on Friday counts for one point, Saturday two points and Sunday three points.

But who exceeded expectations as Team World almost pulled off a shock?

Team Europe

Roger Federer – 5.5 points – 8/10

Roger Federer was relied upon heavily in the last two days of the Laver Cup and when it mattered the most he stepped up to beat John Isner to prevent Team World winning the title.

Only disappointment will come from losing in the doubles alongside Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Rafael Nadal – 2 points – 5/10

Rafael Nadal got off to a winning start by beating Milos Raonic but then lost in the doubles alongside Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The world No 2 pulled out of the final day’s play through injury but made a substantial impact from a coaching role.

Dominic Thiem – 1 point – 3/10

Dominic Thiem struggled to beat Denis Shapovalov in his opening match, edging a super-tiebreak 13-11.

The Austrian lost a crucial match against Taylor Fritz on the final day.

Alexander Zverev – 3.5 points – 6/10

Alexander Zverev recovered from a sticky opening loss to John Isner on Saturday to make amends by keeping his composure to beat Milos Raonic in the Championship decider.

Also partnered Roger Federer to doubles success on the opening day.

Stefanos Tsitsipas – 1 point – 5/10

Stefanos Tsitsipas did what he had to to beat Taylor Fritz in the opening match of the Laver Cup and was not used again in the singles.

However, the Greek star partnered both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the doubles, each ending in a defeat.

Fabio Fognini – 0 points – 1/10

It could not have gone much worse for Fabio Fognini as he was thrashed in the opening match by Jack Sock – who had not won a singles match at any level in 2019.

he Italian lost his cool and needed a heated discussion with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to calm him down.

Team World

John Isner – 3.5 points – 6/10

John Isner won the battle of the serves against Alexander Zverev and pushed Roger Federer on the final day.

In the doubles, the American paired with Jack Sock in another three-pointer and beat Federer and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Milos Raonic – 0 points – 3/10

Probably the harshest zero points you will see.

There was no shame in Milos Raonic’s loss to Rafael Nadal on the second day and the Canadian came within touching distance of winning the Laver Cup for his team in the final match, coming from a set down to take Alexander Zverev to a super-tiebreak before eventually falling short.

Nick Kyrgios – 1 point – 4/10

Nick Kyrgios performed admirably to take Roger Federer to three sets and was also due to play Rafael Nadal but had to withdraw through injury.

The Australian recorded one victory in the doubles alongside Jack Sock on Saturday and like Nadal was ever-present trying to coach his team-mates.

Denis Shapovalov – 0 points – 2/10

Denis Shapovalov lost to Dominic Thiem and also fell to a doubles defeat alongside Jack Sock on the opening day.

Was not used for the rest of the tournament.

Jack Sock – 3.5 points – 8/10

The most surprising performance of the Laver Cup came from Jack Sock as he won his first singles match of 2019 against Fabio Fognini.

The doubles expert played every doubles session for Team World – winning on Saturday and Sunday alongside Nick Kyrgios and John Isner, respectively.

Taylor Fritz – 3 points – 7/10

Taylor Fritz was expected to play on the opening day – a loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas – and then cheer on his team-mates for the rest of the tournament.

But the 21-year-old was called upon after Nick Kyrgios pulled out injured and shocked Dominic Them with a win.
