Lara Spencer, 'Good Morning America' host, apologizes for laughing about Prince George taking ballet

“Good Morning America” co-host Lara Spencer apologized Friday after she laughed at 6-year-old Prince George taking ballet lessons.

Ms. Spencer drew backlash on social media after she laughed during a segment about Prince George’s activities.

“In addition to the usual first- or second-grade things, like math, science and history, the future King of England will be putting down the Play-Doh to take on religious studies, computer programming, poetry and ballet, among other things,” she said before breaking into laughter.

Her co-hosts could also be heard laughing.

“He looks so happy about the ballet class,” Ms. Spencer continued. “Prince William says George absolutely loves ballet. I have news for you Prince William: We’ll see how long that lasts.”

Critics accused Ms. Spencer of bullying, including comedian Rosie O’Donnell, who came to the child’s defense.

“It’s ridiculous. It’s like bullying on national TV,” Ms. O’Donnell said in a video posted on Twitter. “Boys who take ballet are cool and they’ll entertain you. Come on.”

Ms. Spencer responded to the criticism on Instagram, posting a scenic photo of a mountain skyline.

“My sincere apologies for an insensitive comment I made in pop news yesterday,” Ms. Spencer wrote in a post accompanying the photo. “From ballet to anything one wants to explore in life, I say GO FOR IT. I fully believe we should all be free to pursue our passions. Go climb your mountain-and love every minute of it.”
