Landon Collins fined $10k for late hit in Week 1; Troy Apke over $5k for helmet-to-helmet hit

The NFL levied a pair of hefty fines for Washington Football Team safeties for their actions in Week 1. Landon Collins was fined $10,000 for hitting Eagles running back Boston Scott late out of bounds. The hit drew an unnecessary roughness penalty during the game.

Apke was fined $5,447 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Eagles wide receiver John Hightower. Apke was penalized on the play for lowering head to initiate contact.

The Eagles ultimately scored on both possessions as they jumped out to an early 17-0 lead. Washington would overcome the early penalties to rally with 27 unanswered points to a 27-17 win.

Both Collins and Apke have had their share of struggles through the first two weeks in addition to their earnings being docked. Collins’ blown coverage led to a DeAndre Hopkins touchdown in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals. Meanwhile, Apke gave up a 54-yard catch and was nearly juked out of his cleats on each of Kyler Murray’s two rushing touchdowns.
