Labrador that was left for dead after being used as ‘dog fighting bait’ finds loving home

Connie the yellow Labrador almost didn’t make it, due to horrific abuse from her previous owner.

The abandoned dog was found in a terrible way by a member of the public, at Sherdley Park in Merseyside.

Connie was quickly rushed to White Cross Vets where she was treated for her multiple gaping wounds.

With no microchip, the team assumed the deserted canine had received her serious injuries as a result of being used as ‘dog fighting bait.’ They also found signs of further human abuse, such as bruised kidneys.

Due to her lack of owner, Connie’s surgery was predominantly funded by the White Cross clinic’s care fund and North West Labrador Rescue.

What’s more, staff gave up their days off and weekends to care for her, unpaid, after developing a soft spot for the sweet creature.

‘We don’t know what she has been through in the past, but thanks to a huge team effort from our staff, the dog wardens at St Helens Borough Council and North West Labrador Rescue she has a much brighter future ahead of her,’ Catherine Morley, White Cross Vets Clinic’s director, tells Jam Press.

‘All the staff have fallen in love with Connie and we’re all so pleased that she’s coming through the other side of this terrible ordeal.’

Following her treatment, Connie was placed into a foster home with a new owner called Jennifer – who is now taking the steps to formally adopt the pooch.

The team at White Cross Vets say they are thrilled the animal is now in a caring home, with a warm bed to sleep on and plenty of toys to play with.

The adorable canine has since been back to the vets for a check-up – something the staff were thrilled about.

‘Connie will continue to come to us to receive treatment which means we still get to see her and have cuddles,’ a spokesperson from White Cross Vets adds.

‘We are so happy with her progress and would like to thank all our amazing staff, Labrador Rescue and her new foster carers.

‘Connie can now have a happy future filled with love and happiness.’
