La La means I love you: An inside look at why family matters in Carmelo Anthony’s NBA return


CHICAGO — There were times over the past year when Carmelo Anthony thought it was all over. His Hall of Fame career was becoming forgotten, lost in a haze of front office suits saying he-couldn’t-do-this, and he-wouldn’t-do-that. He could sense his love affair with basketball was ending, but not on his terms.

And then, in those moments, those really low moments when he didn’t want to get out of bed for a workout, he would feel a nudge. And then he would hear a voice.

“It’s not over yet.”

The nudge and the voice were from his wife, La La, and they were sprinkled throughout the year that Anthony was out of the NBA, a year of purgatory after being waived by the Houston Rockets 10 games into the 2018-19 season.
