The Los Angeles Clippers pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in NBA history Tuesday night when they erased a 35-point Washington Wizards lead to win 116-115.
According to ESPN Stats and Info, it’s the second-largest comeback in the play-by-play era (since 1996), behind only a 36-point comeback that the Utah Jazz pulled off in 1996.
After outscoring the Wizards by 13 in the third quarter, the Clippers closed the gap to two points with just over two minutes left in the game. Washington finally found some offensive footing and opened the lead back to eight with 37 seconds left, but still couldn’t shut the door.
In the final 10 seconds of the game, the Clippers’ Luke Kennard cut the lead to 115-112 with a three-pointer. After the Wizards were unable to inbound the ball and were called for a five-second violation, Kennard hit another three-pointer with a foul. He hit the free throw to give the Clippers their first lead of the game with less than two seconds left.
