Kylian Mbappe: Olivier Giroud comments ‘affected’ France forward

What did Mbappe say?

“I spoke with Olivier Giroud,” Mbappe confirmed on Sunday. “Everyone knows what happened.

“It is true that I was a little affected by it. But we are not going to make a big deal about it because we are here to represent France, that is the most important thing.

“It is more that he said it publicly than the fact that he said it. I saw him in the dressing room and he didn’t say anything to me.

“He (Giroud) expressed a feeling that I have had 365 times during a match.”

Why did Mbappe speak out?

Despite scoring twice in the 3-0 win over Bulgaria, Giroud told L’Equipe du Soir after the match: “I was a little quiet because, sometimes, I made runs and the balls didn’t come to me.

“I am not saying that I always make the best runs, but I am seeking to offer solutions in the box.”

Giroud also made a point of thanking Benjamin Pavard and Wissam Ben Yedder for their assists, and his comments were interpreted by sections of the French press as critical of Mbappe.

Has there been any reaction?

Speaking on Thursday, two days after the Bulgaria match, Paul Pogba brushed aside the supposed feud between his France team-mates.

“The only tension that we feel is in our backs and our legs,” the Manchester United midfielder joked. “The physios are there to massage us and will remove that.

“I guess you are talking about the situation between Olivier and ‘Kiki’ (Mbappe). There’s nothing at all. At least, from what I’ve seen, there is nothing.”

The France football team also posted a training video on Twitter on Saturday showing Mbappe and Giroud exchanging passes before the Chelsea striker netted in a small-sided game.
