Kravitz: After roller-coaster recovery, Victor Oladipo finds joy and success in emotional return


The happy tears fell from Pacers guard Victor Oladipo’s eyes. They began at game’s end, a 115-106 overtime victory over the Bulls that featured Oladipo’s bloodless, tying 28-foot 3-pointer with nine seconds left in regulation. He got choked up during a postgame interview with Fox Sports’ Jeremiah Johnson, and then, as he walked down a hallway toward the locker room, he lifted his warmup shirt over his face, attempting, without much success, to hide his emotions.

They were tears of unbridled joy, tears of gratitude, all those pent-up emotions spilling over in a torrent. After all the pain and the work and the emotional tumult, he was back in his happy place — make or miss, win or lose. There are several layers to the thoughtful Oladipo, but at his core, he’s a basketball player and a damned fine one at that. Without the game, there was a hole in his heart.
