Kirk Cameron says Christians 'waking up': 'Socialism and communism are knocking on our doors'

Christian actor and filmmaker Kirk Cameron said Monday that Christians are mobilizing in support of President Trump because they are “waking up” to the socialist threat America faces.

The former “Growing Pains” star appeared on Fox News to discuss a recent network poll that said 74% of White evangelicals support Mr. Trump, compared to Democratic nominee Joseph R. Biden’s 24%.

“I can tell you that as I travel the country and teach in churches I’m seeing a couple of things that are just astounding,” Mr. Cameron said. “One is the enthusiasm level for people going out and rallying for a presidential election is unbelievable — 96-mile car trains, 30,000 vehicles, 58,000 people in Pennsylvania — regardless of the side of the aisle you’re on, this enthusiasm level is unprecedented.

“Second of all,” he continued, “I see people of faith are waking up to the scary idea that socialism and communism are knocking on our doors this Halloween season, and they’re disguised in the costumes of public health and social justice.”

Mr. Cameron also slammed Gavin Newsom, the Democratic governor of his home state of California, for declaring “going to church nonessential and Thanksgiving with all my grown children in my living room nonessential” during the coronavirus pandemic.

He said the government overreach is what inspired him to help create “Non-Essential,” a get-out-the-vote event for Christians that took place in California last month.

“It’s been an incredible time to fight back and grab our essential liberties,” Mr. Cameron said.
