The report details that bets were allegedly placed by a small group of Trippier’s friends after conversations on messaging service WhatsApp, with the FA’s rules stating it is an offence to pass on inside information.

The player himself has always maintained that he did not make any profit by bets being made by someone else, and says he did not make any bets personally.

The FA confirmed on Tuesday that Trippier had left the squad due to what they described as ‘personal reasons’.

Former Liverpool striker and ex-England international Daniel Sturridge, who is currently unattached, received a four-month ban from all football this year for a similar offence.

A statement in May read: ‘Kieran Trippier has been charged with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of the FA’s betting rules.
