As coach, Brad Stevens would sometimes call timeout within a couple of minutes when his team needed a lift. As president of basketball operations, Stevens pulled off a different variation of that move Friday. Barely two weeks into his new role with the Celtics, Stevens executed a major roster shakeup.
In a bold first move, Stevens dealt four-time All-Star Kemba Walker, the 16th pick in the upcoming draft and a 2025 second-round pick to the Thunder for Al Horford, Moses Brown and a 2023 second-round pick. In addition to the roster shift, the Celtics trimmed substantial salary for next season, a key development that should help Stevens build out the supporting cast.
Stevens wasted little time before making a big splash.
