Kawakami: Steve Kerr’s offseason personnel voice and more Warriors thoughts


How much time has Steve Kerr spent thinking about offseason personnel moves in the previous five lead-ups to the draft and player-movement period? Maybe two milliseconds, while he churned through video of pick-and-roll coverage from Game 2 of the Finals. Maybe a blink of a half-conversation with Bob Myers and Joe and Kirk Lacob during yet another flight back from Cleveland.

Maybe one moment during a victory parade or two while reviewing the agony of a six-game Finals loss.

Nope, it was natural and unavoidable for Kerr and his coaching staff to stay mostly far away from the necessary offseason work by Myers and his personnel staff. At least it was for the previous five seasons. Sometimes that was just fine for the Warriors, and sometimes the distance showed.

But 2020, of course, is different from all years in every way, and one specific way it was very different for the Warriors’ draft and player-movement period preparation was that Kerr had quite a bit…
