Kamala Harris blasts Donald Trump's involvement in A$AP Rocky case as 'playing politics'

Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Kamala D. Harris said Wednesday that President Trump is “playing politics” by trying to free rapper A$AP Rocky from jail in Sweden.

During the NAACP conference’s presidential candidates forum, the California Democrat agreed with moderator April Ryan’s assertion that Mr. Trump’s involvement in the case constituted a “misuse of power.”

“There is no question that this White House has been playing politics with his role of leadership, and it has to end,” Ms. Harris said.

“We have a predator living in the White House. And the thing you got to know is that it is the nature of predators, it is their instinct and their nature to prey on those they perceive to be vulnerable, to prey on those their perceive to be weak, to prey on those who are in need of help often desperate for help,” the former prosecutor continued. “I am prepared to prosecute the case against four more years of Donald Trump. … We have got to take this case on against Donald Trump and expose it for what it is.”

A$AP Rocky, who has been jailed in Sweden since July 3, was charged Thursday with assault following a physical altercation with several other men in Stockholm. Mr. Trump weighed in on the case on Twitter, revealing that he had “a very good call” with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and would continue discussing the rapper’s potential release.

Authorities in Sweden have said they will not be swayed by international pressure, CNN reported.

“The Swedish judicial system is completely independent and does not take into consideration outside pressure from politicians or others,” a spokesman for the Swedish prosecution authority said Sunday.
