MSNBC host Joy Reid denigrated Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas as “Uncle Clarence” early Wednesday.
Ms. Reid made the comment while discussing President Trump’s promise to take outstanding ballot counts in several battleground states to the Supreme Court.
“What I think scares people is that if he decides to do something that — it legally makes no sense,” she said. “But if they somehow manage to stumble into the Supreme Court, do any of you guys trust Uncle Clarence and Amy Coney Barrett and those guys to actually follow the letter of the law? No.
“It’s a completely politicized Supreme Court that you can’t just trust that they’re going to do the right thing,” she added.
Ms. Reid’s comment, which came as the Election Day results continued to trickle in, appeared to be calling Justice Thomas an “Uncle Tom,” a racial slur referring to a Black man who is considered obedient to White people. She was immediately criticized for the reference.
