Titled “True Love,” the new movie is a sci-fi story, set in the near future. Details of the plot, however, are currently undisclosed.
After breaking onto the scene with his critically acclaimed directorial debut “Monsters” in 2010, Edwards helmed “Godzilla” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” The pair of big budget blockbusters earned a combined $1.5 billion at the box office.
Edwards will also produce “True Love,” reuniting with “Rogue One” producer Kiri Hart for the new project. New Regency is set to produce and finance the film.
Washington is on quite the big-screen run himself, after starring in last year’s “Malcolm and Marie” opposite Zendaya and headlining Christopher Nolan’s time-bending thriller “Tenet.” For his performance in Spike Lee’s “BlacKkKlansman,” the actor earned Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations. Washington recently completed work on the New Regency’s upcoming film from director David O. Russell, with an ensemble led by Christian Bale and Margot Robbie.
Washington is represented by WME. Edwards is repped by WME, Curtis Brown, Range and Ziffren Law.
Deadline was first to report news of the upcoming project.
