Lady Gaga’s father, New York City restaurateur Joe Germanotta, deleted an Election Day tweet endorsing President Trump one day after the president criticized his daughter.
On Tuesday, Mr. Germanotta tweeted, “@realDonaldTrump 2020,” to his 65,000 followers, People reported.
“You may have noticed my political and spiritual beliefs are different. liberty and freedom of choice would not be political,” he wrote in a subsequent tweet, People reported.
Both tweets were later deleted but that didn’t stop the backlash.
“Ban Joe Germanotta from NY,” one Twitter user wrote.
“We’re canceling Joe Germanotta,” another tweeted.
“Joe Germanotta showed that Trump is thicker than blood in Election Day tweets,” HuffPost reported.
Mr. Germanotta’s comments came one day after Mr. Trump told a Pennsylvania rally that Lady Gaga “is not too good.”
“I could tell you plenty of stories,” the president said in Avoca Monday night. “I could tell you stories about Lady Gaga. I know a lot of stories. Lady Gaga.”
On the same night, Gaga joined Democratic presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden in Pittsburgh.
“To all the women, and to all the men with daughters and sisters and mothers — everybody, no matter how you identify, now is your chance to vote against Donald Trump, a man who believes his fame gives him the right to grab one of your daughters, or sisters or mothers or wives by any part of their body,” the singer said Monday.
