Jockeys Luca Panici, Jose Ortiz To Miss Several Weeks With Fractured Collarbone, Wrist

Jockeys Luca Panici and Jose Ortiz will be sidelined for several weeks.

Panici, who rode Sole Volante to victory in the Sam F. Davis (G3) and Ete Indien to a second-place finish behind Tiz the Law in the Holy Bull (G3), is expected to miss several weeks due to a fractured collarbone suffered Friday afternoon in the 10th race at Gulfstream Park.

According to drf.com, Florent Geroux will replace Panici on Sole Volante in the Tampa Bay Derby, and on Ete Indien in the Fountain of Youth.

Panici was aboard Terrible Tara, a 3-year-old filly who hit the rail, unseating Panici. Agent Kevin Meyocks said Panici was released from the hospital Friday evening and will see a specialist Monday.

Meanwhile, Ortiz suffered a fractured wrist Saturday after being unseated in the post parade during the third race aboard Atone.

Ortiz will not be heading to Saudi Arabia next weekend, per drf.com, missing his scheduled mount on Tacitus in the $20 million Saudi Cup.
