With three victories Saturday, newcomer Umberto Rispoli climbed to fourth place in Santa Anita’s Winter Meet jockey standings with 19, seven behind leader Joel Rosario. Both riders are represented by world-class agent Ron Anderson.
Rispoli, a two-time champion in his native Italy, won the third race on Princeofthenorth ($7.60) for trainer Hector Palma; the seventh on Coast of Roan ($13.60) for Doug O’Neill; and the ninth aboard Jurgen ($7.80) for John Sadler. All the races were on turf.
“He’s certainly exceeded what I thought he could at this point, especially with the limited number of horses and opportunities,” Anderson said, quickly adding, “Umberto is an exceptional rider and an exceptional horseman, and he works hard.
“That’s a good recipe for success around here right now.”
