Jerry West’s son Ryan leaving Lakers

Jerry West’s son Ryan is leaving the Los Angeles Lakers after spending 10 years with the team.

Ryan West began as a scout with the Lakers in 2009 and worked his way up to Director of Player Personnel. The Athletic’s Bill Oram, who reported the news, says West was credited with the draft selections of D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson.

Jerry West, who played for the Lakers and later became their general manager, began working for the Clippers as a consultant in June of 2017. At the time Jerry West was hired, the Los Angeles Times’ Broderick Turner reported that there was a “strong chance” that Ryan would join his father. Maybe that could end up happening now.

Both the Lakers and Clippers are poised to enjoy successful seasons this season after making major offseason additions.
