Jay Gruden keeps preaching patience with Dwayne Haskins no matter the noise

ASHBURN, Va. — The masses want to know when Dwayne Haskins will start for the 0-3 Washington Redskins.

Few ask the more pertinent question: Is he ready?

That might not matter by Sunday’s road tilt at the New York Giants. Starter Case Keenum landed on the weekly injury report with a sprained right foot, though he practiced Thursday. As the lone healthy backup for the opening three weeks, Haskins, a one-year starter at Ohio State, would seem to be the obvious replacement if needed.

Then again, Colt McCoy participated in practice for his first full work since the leg injury dating back to December became problematic in mid-August. If Keenum cannot go and McCoy hacks off the ample rust likely built up over the past six weeks, Gruden might turn to the lone quarterback experienced with his playbook beyond this season.

“There is a chance that could happen,” Gruden said Wednesday during a rather haphazard press conference.
