Jason Kidd a candidate for Mavericks coaching job?

The Dallas Mavericks are hitting the figurative reset button after parting ways with general manager Donnie Nelson and having head coach Rick Carlisle confirm he won’t be returning after 13 seasons on the job.

Following the announcement that franchise legend Dirk Nowitzki is returning to help the club select a new GM and coach, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reports Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach and former Dallas star guard Jason Kidd could be on the team’s radar:

Kidd was recently linked with the Portland Trail Blazers’ opening but removed his name from consideration less than two weeks ago. He reportedly felt uncomfortable that Portland star Damian Lillard publicly backed him for the job.

It’s unknown if Kidd would pursue or accept the Dallas gig.

Following his Hall of Fame playing career, Kidd entered coaching and held jobs with the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks. He holds a career record of 183-190 and has been with the Lakers as an assistant since the summer of 2019.
