Jared Dudley on D’Angelo Russell and a wild NBA free-agent summer


I like asking for Lakers forward Jared Dudley’s take for a reason we get to later in this interview: He tends to actually give it. In an age when players fear the repercussions of honesty, Dudley’s answers are often equal parts well considered and candid. In this case, since Dudley recently played with the Warriors’ newest max acquisition, I wanted his intel on that experience and how it fits into the broader picture of the league. As always, Dudley did not disappoint.

What was your experience playing with D’Angelo Russell versus the image many had of him earlier in his career?

Well, it was a little bit different because I got traded there. Devin Booker called me, and that was his best friend at the time. I mean, he still is his best friend and so he was just telling me how he’s a good dude and how it was kind of funny I got to play with him and help mentor him. I mean, you heard about the kind of the problems he had in LA, man.
