Jamie Lee Curtis Announces That Her Daughter Is Trans, Shares Support

Jamie Lee Curtis proudly shared that her youngest child is a trans woman happily living her life as Ruby. The beloved star of films including Freaky Friday, Halloween, and Knives Out said in a recent profile in AARP that she has her daughter’s permission to reveal the exciting news.

The Golden Globe winner said she and her husband of 37 years, actor and comedian Christopher Guest, “have watched in wonder as our son became our daughter Ruby.” Curtis added that her 25-year-old daughter works as a computer gaming editor and that she’s currently engaged and preparing for her wedding.

The icing on the cake? Curtis is set to officiate Ruby’s impending nuptials next year.

Curtis also touched on the “great mental migration” she’s undertaken since her 50s, when she began her journey to recovery from a dangerous opioid addiction. Now 62 and fully sober, Curtis has embraced her new lease on life by reconsidering former ways of thinking and shedding “old ideas,” as she put it.

Ruby’s coming out played a key role in that re-education, Curtis said, leading the actor to reassess the false idea that gender is binary and fixed. Curtis described her own life as a “constant metamorphosis,” and said she’s happy to have been able to earnestly love and support Ruby throughout her transition.

Curtis, herself the daughter of Hollywood legends Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, is one of several celebrity parents who have recently celebrated their children’s transition. Gabrielle Union and her basketball player husband of seven years, Dwayne Wade, have become vocal advocates for trans visibility and acceptance. The couple has repeatedly used their respective platforms to stand up for their trans daughter Zaya Wade, while also speaking openly about the importance of supporting and protecting trans youth.

To see A-List celebrities like Curtis, Union, and Wade set an example for other parents of trans kids is undoubtedly inspiring. And in light of the legislative attacks on trans youth being waged across the country, their public advocacy feels more crucial than ever.

Judging from her role officiating her daughter’s wedding, it’s clear that Curtis and Ruby are as close as ever. Now, my only question is: Can I get an invite?
