Jamie Carragher has gleefully taken a pop at his Sky Sports partner Gary Neville for slamming Manchester United‘s attacking team against Leicester… three weeks after picking his own attacking best Red Devils XI.

Neville was merciless in his criticism of United in their 4-2 loss to Leicester on Saturday, a match in which they lost their record 29-game away unbeaten run.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played Nemanja Matic alongside Paul Pogba in the centre of midfield, opting for five attacking players to take the game to Leicester.

But the Red Devils were instead constantly caught out defensively and shipped four goals.

After the game, Neville did not pull any punches, saying United were ‘nowhere near good enough’ to challenge for the Premier League and focusing on Solskjaer’s attack-minded line-up.

‘We’ve seen a team that’s been picked today with (Mason) Greenwood, (Jadon) Sancho, Pogba, (Cristiano) Ronaldo and (Bruno) Fernandes in that team,’ Neville said on Sky Sports.

‘I wouldn’t want to be a defender in that team. I’d love them as players but not all in the same team. There’s not enough workhorses.’

However, it didn’t take co-pundit Carragher long to dig into Neville’s Twitter archive and resurface a tweet in which Neville answered a fan’s question in September over what his best Man United XI would be.

Neville responded with a team that had just Scott McTominay as a defensive midfielder, with Pogba, Fernandes, Greenwood, Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani ahead of him.

Ex-Liverpool defender Carragher couldn’t resist the opportunity.

‘You literally picked a team with 5 attackers in 2 weeks ago (Gary Neville) all over the place the lot of you,’ he wrote, followed by three crying-laughing emojis.

Neville unsurprisingly didn’t let Carragher have the last word, his response starting with a ‘zipped-mouth’ emoji.

‘That was before Villerreal (sic) and Everton at home!’ Neville wrote on Twitter. ‘Not in this run of games. Nuance is lost on Twitter or with you. See you tomorrow,’ signing off with a hugging emoji.

Perhaps that same fan could ask Neville what his best United XI would be now and clear up the issue once and for all.
