James Wiseman suffers meniscus injury; what’s next for him and the Warriors?

James Wiseman’s turbulent rookie season might be over. An MRI on his right knee revealed a meniscal injury, as the team is terming it. The fear is that it’s a torn meniscus, a cruel development for the young center just as he was finding an offensive groove and a significant blow for a franchise that was desperate to discover more about the No. 2 overall pick in the final months of his first season.

More testing is still to come. Wiseman has only met with team doctors to this point. Other experts will be consulted in the coming days before deciding on the proper treatment plan. Meniscus injuries can come with varying return timetables, depending on whether surgery or rest is prescribed. But the reality is his season is presumably over, stripping the team’s most important young player of crucial developmental time.
