Jadon Sancho 'is being urged to publicly confirm he wants to STAY at Borussia Dortmund'

Jadon Sancho ‘is being urged to publicly confirm he wants to STAY at Borussia Dortmund’ as German giants put pressure on their young star with Manchester United still chasing their top target

  • Jadon Sancho continues to be linked with a massive move to Manchester United
  • Dortmund have insisted the player will be staying in Germany next season
  • Manchester United still hold out hope they can persuade winger to Old Trafford
  • The German side reportedly want Sancho to commit his future to them publicly

Jadon Sancho reportedly faces pressure from Borussia Dortmund to commit his future to the club as heavy speculation continues to link him to Manchester United.

Sancho is the No 1 transfer target for United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and after negotiations between the clubs that have dragged on for months, the club remain optimistic of securing a deal.

Dortmund have insisted that the player will not be leaving in the 2020-21 campaign, with sporting director Michael Zorc claiming their decision was final, and now the club are looking for him to publicly affirm his desire to stay, according to The Times.

The Bundesliga side have been dealing with rumours about the England international for much of the summer, with club officials being forced to repeatedly bat away speculation. They are keen for Sancho to shut down those rumours either in an interview or on social media, the report claims.

This week Zorc stressed the player was going nowhere – revealing the club had also extended his contract by a year to 2023.

‘Jadon Sancho will play with us next season,’ he said. ‘The decision is final. I think that answers all the questions.

‘Last summer we adjusted Jadon’s salary to match the development of his performances. So in context, we had already extended his contract until 2023 back then.’

Dortmund have demanded a fee of £108m for Sancho, with United becoming frustrated by their ‘unreasonable’ demands and the slow pace of talks. They were denied from speaking to the club directly and were forced to thrash out a deal with intermediaries.

The 20-year-old is not believed to be pushing for an exit from Signal Iduna Park – which would appear to be his only remaining option if he has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford. United failed to meet Dortmund’s deadline of August 10 to wrap up the move, with the player since joining the club’s pre-season tour.

United officials believe Dortmund’s set date was ‘artificial’ and not a dealbreaker in signing Sancho.

He started for the team in their 6-0 friendly win over Austrian team Rheindorf Altach on Wednesday, playing 45 minutes alongside new recruit and fellow British star Jude Bellingham.

Sancho enjoyed another electric season for the German outfit in 2019-20, scoring 20 goals and providing 18 assists to confirm his name as one of the most talented stars in world football.

United are said to be lining up replacements in case they fail to land him, with Solskjaer desperate to secure a new right winger. Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman is reportedly a target, as is Juventus’ Douglas Costa – while Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has been interesting them for some time.
