‘It’s bullshit for us’: LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the ‘two Americas’


For LeBron James, the story of America right now can be told through two photographs.

The first is of a Black father attending a Black Lives Matter rally in Long Beach, Calif., in June. The man’s 2-year-old son was on his shoulders and the barrel of a weapon was pointed at them.

The other is of a looter waving and smiling as he lugged a lectern belonging to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi after a mob of President Donald Trump’s supporters violently stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.

That was all James needed to show his three kids to explain what has gone on in the United States over the last four years.

“All you gotta do is look at the photos,” James said.

On Thursday night, James delivered a cutting rebuke of Trump for his role in stoking racial tensions, and highlighted the differences between how Black Lives Matter protesters last summer were treated by police versus how the predominantly white rioters who…
