‘It’s an everyday battle to let go of that will to win’: Draymond Green’s calm approach to a rare losing season


Everything has changed for the Warriors from last June to now. This season might just be a pause in the run of championship-level play or it might be the end of the dynasty. In this series of stories over the next few weeks, “Dynasty Interrupted,” The Athletic Bay Area is taking a detailed look at how the key remaining members of the Warriors are dealing with this turn of events and what the team is doing to remake and restore itself for the future. The most miserable season of Draymond Green’s basketball life came as a junior at Michigan State. He delivered this nomination last week, while soaking his aching legs in a cold tub, deep inside the New Orleans Pelicans locker room.

“19-15,” Green says, correctly remembering the Spartans’ record. “Think we went 9-9 in conference.”
