It’s all sliding the wrong direction for the Capitals after Game 2 loss


The five-time Metro Division champion Capitals are frustrated.

And after a 5-2 loss to the disciplined, detailed and determined Islanders in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series, they are also in a heap of trouble.

Ten observations, notes and quotes from a forgettable performance Friday that left Alex Ovechkin and Co. down 2-0 in the best-of-seven series:

1. Help wanted

Through 120 minutes, T.J. Oshie and Alex Ovechkin are responsible for all four of the Caps’ goals.

That’s it. That’s the list of scorers for the NHL’s second-most-prolific team in the regular season. By comparison, the Islanders have gotten nine goals from eight players.

John Carlson, who has three assists, said the Caps need work harder to get to the prime real estate in front of Islanders goalie Semyon Varlamov.
