Watford have said that Ismaila Sarr has suffered a knee ligament injury, ruling him out for the rest of the year.
Sarr, 23, sustained the injury in the 4-1 victory over Manchester United earlier this month and will now miss the entirety of the club’s festive schedule
“(Sarr) will require a further scan in around a month’s time – whereupon the club will publish an update on his condition,” the Premier League club said in a statement on Tuesday.
“Until then, he will continue to be monitored and assessed by the club’s medical team.”
In a further blow, goalkeeper Ben Foster will also miss the remainder of Watford’s 2021 fixtures with a groin strain.
The club added: “Having been nursing a groin strain in recent games, the results of a scan late last week revealed that Ben Foster – who missed Sunday’s trip to Leicester City – will be out of action until January.”
The injury to Nicolas Nkoulou is also a blow after two assured performances against Arsenal and Manchester United. Christian Kabasele has just returned to fitness but Francisco Sierralta is still a few weeks away, meaning Watford’s central defence is short on numbers.
