Islanders oust Bruins in Game 6, will face Lightning in rematch from 2020

The New York Islanders scored three second-period goals to power a 6-2 win against the Boston Bruins in Game 6 on Wednesday, advancing to the Stanley Cup semifinals and setting up a rematch against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

After the sides traded goals in the first period, Brock Nelson scored a pair seven minutes apart, and Kyle Palmieri added another late in the second period. The latter two goals came directly off Bruins turnovers in their own end, and the Isles added two empty-net goals in the third.

All six Islanders tallies came at even strength, after New York converted 3 of 4 power-play opportunities in a 5-4 win in Game 5, prompting Boston coach Bruce Cassidy to rip the officiating. Both Boston goals game on the power play from Brad Marchand, who had eight in 11 games this postseason.

The Islanders will get another shot at the Lightning after losing to the eventual champions in six games in the Eastern Conference finals last season. Tampa Bay reached the semifinals with a 4-1 series win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.

This is a developing story. More to come.
