iPhone’s biggest security feature may come on MacBook – Gadgets Now

Even though it took some time, but by now everyone is used to the notch on the iPhone. Introduced back in 2017, this special 10th-anniversary iPhone embellish the notch that was later adopted by almost all smartphone makers — in their own manner of course.

Now, it seems that the company is planning to bring the same to its MacBooks too. As per a latest patent that the company has filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office from September 2019, the company may work on bringing the Face ID to future iMacs and MacBooks. This could be in lieu of the Touch ID biometric system that is currently present on the Face IDs.

“By performing these complex functions, sensitive data associated with these users may be gathered and/or stored by these computing devices,” says Apple. “To prevent unauthorized users from accessing this sensitive data, these computing devices may incorporate systems and mechanisms for authenticating users.”

The report by Patently Apple says that the application of the FaceID on an iMac will be quite simple, however, for the MacBook, the integration “is awkwardly designed having some components at the top of the display but having light pattern recognition module that includes the needed dot projector built into the Touch Bar area in the keyboard.”

“Although the systems and techniques described herein are described with relation to recognizing users and/or authenticating users, the systems and techniques may also be applicable to capturing face gestures and emotions, video chatting, generating emoji, encrypting data, unlocking the computing device, supplementing passwords, differentiating different users, and the like,” Apple revealed in its patent application.

Readers must note that till this point it is just Apple filing for a patent and as of now there are no leaks suggesting any such products in the company’s pipeline. However, if Apple does start working on such a gadget we won’t be surprised to see PCs and laptops from other manufacturers to sport a notch as well.
