The hype ramped up over the past 48 hours but Saturday night’s game in Nashville was circled on the calendar for weeks. The stakes were clear, as coach Rick Bowness laid out so plainly Friday.
“We know where we are. They know where they are,” Bowness said. “You get to this stage and you’re not in a playoff spot, every game becomes the most important game of the year. (Saturday) night becomes the most important game of the year for both teams. If they win, we’re still in it because of the game in hand. But then we’d need some help and we don’t want to put ourselves in that situation.”
A 1-0 overtime loss later, the Stars are in that situation. In fact, that’s the theme of the Stars recently: They need help.
Dallas needs to help its goaltenders. The past two games have featured two different goaltenders against two different opponents.
