The deal: Ricky Rubio to the Phoenix Suns for three years and $51 million
The Suns have desperately needed a point guard for a few years now. Remember when they tried having a trio of point guards with Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe, and Isaiah Thomas all in the same rotation? Everybody wondered how it would shake out, and the only thing it led to was a bunch of trades for each player. Dragic got moved to the Miami Heat. Thomas got moved to the Boston Celtics. Eventually, Bledsoe let them — and the world — know he didn’t want to be in Phoenix anymore and two seasons ago, they sent him to Milwaukee.
Since then, they’ve forced Devin Booker to do a lot of the playmaking for them. He did a good job with it, but it usually happened in a futile team effort with his squad being horribly overmatched. It didn’t matter how much Booker scored, they just didn’t have enough experience or help on both ends of the floor to crack more into the wins column.
