Inside the bubble: On moving barricades, Boston blow-ups and a comeback renewed


LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The rules have a tendency to change inside the NBA bubble.

What’s prim and proper one day might not be the next, depending on some combination of science and community politics or a combination therein. But when the plastic barricade that holds reporters back from the Boston Celtics locker room area in the immediate aftermath of games was moved back approximately 30 feet in these Eastern Conference Finals, it was as clear a reminder as any of the chaos that came before.

The post-Game 2 locker-room blow-up that was impossible for media members not to hear back on Sept. 17 had clearly caused a discussion about arena logistics, and so the people who are here to share the on-the-scene observations were pushed back far enough that any internal discontent might go unseen or heard. None of this mattered after Boston’s 121-108 win over Miami in Game 5 that forced a Game 6 on Sunday.
