Inside Kobe Bryant’s invite-only mini camp and how it all came together


Leave it to Kobe Bryant to pique the interest of the masses.

The former Lakers star who runs a production company and has won an Oscar in his post-retirement life knows how to hook the audience, and he did just that through various social media channels on Thursday. When pictures of Bryant working with some of the NBA’s best stars were shared on the Twitter and Instagram accounts for his Mamba Sports Academy in Southern California – chief among them new Clippers star Kawhi Leonard – fans started to wonder what it all meant.

When did these workouts happen? Who all was there? The details trickled out, but the overall picture remained unclear. Until now.

In late August, a select group of NBA players received invitations over text, email and in person to in an invite-only minicamp, dubbed the Mamba Sports Pro Invitational, at Kobe Bryant’s Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
