The Illinois Racing Board announced this week it has begun a search for a chief state steward to be based at Fairmount Park in Collinsville, Ill. The position is a six-month seasonal position running from March to September 2020.
The IRB is seeking candidates with college degrees, ideally in racetrack management or business, current accreditation from the Racing Officials Accreditation Program, and five years’ experience as a steward or commission licensed racing official.
The chief state steward will be responsible for monitoring live races for infractions, monitoring betting odds and wagering pools for irregularities, reviewing and approving license application, investigating potential rules violations, conducting hearings regarding violations, and other duties.
