Illinois adds Baylor transfer Matthew Mayer

Baylor wing Matthew Mayer will transfer to Illinois for his final year of eligibility, he announced on social media. Mayer started all 33 games for the Bears last season, averaging 9.8 points and five rebounds while helping lead the team to a 27-7 record. He joins fellow Baylor transfer Dain Dianja and Texas Tech’s Terrence Shannon Jr. as Illinois transfer pickups this offseason.

Illinois went 23-10 last season, tied for first place in the Big Ten, and reached the NCAA tournament’s second round. Brad Underwood’s team will look to replace key production from Trent Frazier, Da’Monte Williams and Alfonso Plummer (graduation), Andre Curbelo (transfer) as well as big man Kofi Cockburn (NBA draft).
