‘I love doing what I do’: Members of Jazz Gaming are living their dreams in Utah


Life as a New York City Uber driver was never easy for Shaka Browne. Especially when it came to securing money — getting the bag, if you will. Simply put, NYC is one of the few places in the world where the Uber hustle can still be overshadowed by the traditional taxicab.

A native of Mount Vernon, N.Y. (Money Earnin’ is a popular city nickname, ironically enough), but living in the city at the time, Browne would drive during the day. By the end of his shift, his travels inevitably took him through New York’s five boroughs. At night, he would hurry home, fire up his video game console and throw on “NBA 2K.” From there, he would practice until the wee hours of the morning. Then he would catch a couple of hours of sleep, maybe sneak in a bite to eat.

And then the tedious cycle would repeat itself.

“It was all about doing what I could in order to do what I love,” Browne told The Athletic.
