How Much Money Endgame, Yesterday, And Annabelle Comes Home Should Make This Weekend

Annabelle the creepy doll is expected to play runner-up to the Toy Story 4 gang this weekend. Annabelle Comes Home opened on June 26 to get a head start on the weekend box office. Meanwhile, Yesterday opened — wait for it — yesterday so it is seeing its first money this June 28-30 opening weekend. Also, you might’ve heard that Avengers: Endgame got itself a re-release? There are some estimates on how much that might help its cause to defeat Avatar.

How is the lineup expected to play out? According to reports, Toy Story 4 is expected to lead the pack (again) by quite a bit, followed by Annabelle Comes Home, then Yesterday, and then good old Aladdin. Avengers: Endgame is expected to be toward the bottom of the lineup, maybe 9th place, but tomorrow’s numbers will be more exact.

Annabelle Comes Home

Box Office Mojo estimates The Conjuring Universe movie will make about $16 million this weekend, from 3,603 theaters. The site predicts it’ll end up making about $25-27 million across its five-day opening. That’s well behind the $64.8 million they projected for Toy Story 4, which still has 4,575 theaters. However, over at Box Office Pro, they went as high as $27 million for Annabelle Comes Home‘s three-day weekend forecast ($37-45M for the five days, which seems quite high), with Toy Story 4 at $60.8 million.

A higher opening would track closer to the previous Annabelle movies, including Annabelle: Creation, which opened to $35 million in 2017, and the first Annabelle which opened to $37.1 million in 2014. Check our Sunday box office report tomorrow for the domestic totals for the weekend.

Annabelle Comes Home currently has a 68% fresh rating from 101 critics and a Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 72%. However, the moviegoers polled at CinemaScore were less fond and gave it a B-, which is lower than the B of the past two Annabelle movies.

Yesterday

Danny Boyle’s romantic comedy musical, starring Himesh Patel as the only one to remember the Beatles, has a bit of an interesting situation over at Rotten Tomatoes. It’s one of the many movies of the past few years to get meh reviews from critics but raves from fans.

Yesterday has a Tomatometer score of 61% but an audience score of 91% and a CinemaScore of A-.

Box Office Mojo predicts Yesterday will make about $12 million this weekend, from 2,603 theaters, while Box Office Pro went with $10 million. At least those estimates are pretty close.

Yesterday is one of the only non-franchise movies in the lineup. If the top 10 shakes out as expected, Rocketman may be the only other non remake/sequel of the lot.

Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame, which just got a re-release with about six minutes of new footage, is expected to just crack the top 10 with around $2.5 million. Box Office Mojo has it at 2,025 theaters and $2.5 million, with Box Office Pro predicting more than $2.9 million.

As the sun now stands on Saturday, June 29 — with no updated figures yet from the weekend yet — Avengers: Endgame has a worldwide gross of $2,753,808,694. Avatar is at $2,787,965,087.

Stay tuned for CinemaBlend’s Sunday box office roundup for more details on how everything turned out.

Midsommar is coming soon to add its unique horror take to the franchise lineup. That’ll be some nice counter-programming to Spider-Man: Far From Home, which also opens this coming week.
