The BIG3 is giving former NBAers the chance to leave the game on their own terms. For some their play is even rekindling thoughts about a return to the NBA. Case in point: Joe Johnson. The veteran free-agent swingman is simply having the best summer of any player currently not on an NBA roster. At least not yet.
Johnson on Tuesday was named Most Valuable Player of the BIG3, and his Triplets team will play for the championship in Ice Cube’s startup league in Los Angeles this weekend. It may seem like a long way from competing against the likes of LeBron James and winning the Larry O’Brien trophy, but at least one fellow BIG3 player believes that Johnson’s showing this summer will lead to the former first-round pick landing a job in the NBA.
