How Anthony Davis’ absence will affect the Lakers through the All-Star break


The Lakers announced that Anthony Davis has been diagnosed with a right calf strain after re-aggravating his right Achilles tendonosis against Denver and will miss Tuesday’s game vs. Minnesota. Davis’ MRI on Monday showed no rupture of his Achilles tendon, and he’ll be reevaluated by team doctors upon his return to Los Angeles.

Davis will likely be held out through the NBA All-Star break (March 5-10), missing nine games over the next three-and-a-half weeks, as first reported by ESPN. That timetable is in line with what Dr. Rajpal Brar, DPT, a physical therapist, sports scientist and data analyst, told The Athletic on Sunday.

Davis’ injury leaves a massive hole in the Lakers’ interior. The seven-time All-Star isn’t posting his typical offensive numbers this season, but he was still a shoo-in for the 2021 All-Star Game (he’ll likely miss it now), and is once again an All-NBA and Defensive Player of the Year…
