Hollinger: The 9 players I’ll be watching most closely in Orlando, starring Zion


Twenty-two NBA teams will return to action in late July, but for many NBA fans the league’s return is about one player more than all the others … a player who played just 565 minutes in the season to date.

No, we haven’t seen much of Zion Williamson yet, but we’re about to see a lot more. It’s no accident that the league’s first game on July 30 will feature the Pelicans’ rookie forward on national TV. He provided enough electrifying moments in his brief pre-COVID-19 return to action to leave all of us wanting much, much more.

I don’t need to go deep here on the reasons. The numbers are impressive enough — a sparkling 24.2 PER, 23.2 points per game and 58.6 percent shooting — but it’s the eyes that open wide watching him explode off the floor for dunks, blocks and short-range finishes. A star from the first day (his pre-injury preseason games were arguably even more spectacular), the only question left…
