NEW ORLEANS — The old saying in the NBA is that if you’re not winning,
you’re selling hope.
Well, after a brutal 6-22 start, the Pelicans finally have some hope to sell. New Orleans won its fourth straight game over a likely playoff team on Sunday, beating the Rockets 127-112 to cap a glorious sports weekend in the Crescent City. In addition to two blowout wins for the resurgent Pelicans in a rare home back-to-back, the NFL’s Saints stomped Carolina 42-10 and mighty LSU stomped Oklahoma 63-28 in the college football semifinals.
But back to the local basketball collective. The win pushes the Pels’ record to 11-23, which normally wouldn’t put one in a great position to sell hope. But these are not normal times in the Western Conference, where a 14-19 Portland team currently owns the conference’s 8th and final playoff seed, leaving the Pels only 3.5 games out of the postseason.
