Hollinger: As NBA’s coaching carousel turns, Pelicans’ choice as crucial as any

The coaching carousel took a while to start spinning this spring, but as ever, roughly a quarter of the league’s teams will end up changing generals.

With Wednesday’s news that both New Orleans (Stan Van Gundy) and Washington (Scott Brooks) would be making coaching changes, six of the league’s head coaching positions have now opened since the season ended. Already Portland (Terry Stotts), Indiana (Nate Bjorkgren), Orlando (Steve Clifford) and Boston (Brad Stevens) had opted to make changes, while Atlanta’s job technically remains unfilled too (interim coach Nate McMillan is widely expected to get the full-time job). As ever, many of these musical chairs may be occupied by several of the same men when all is said and done this summer.

More could be coming, with Milwaukee’s Mike Budenholzer in particular seemingly hanging by a thread after his team fell behind 3-2 in its second-round series against Brooklyn.
