The “Queen of the Turf” is one of 16 remaining runners pointing to Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe after Monday’s first forfeit stage, and Enable couldn’t be doing any better. The superstar mare breezed on the Limekilns on Monday morning, according to racingpost.com, pleasing both her trainer John Gosden and jockey Frankie Dettori.
“It was great to get Enable back on the Limekilns where the ground was the easy side of good and conditions were perfect as there was no wind,” said Gosden. “I put her in front as it’s best to mix it up with her as she can easily get bored doing the same thing. Frankie was happy with her and hopefully we can get through the next six days.”
Enable, the 5-year-old daughter of Nathaniel, is seeking an unprecedented third victory in the Arc. Last year, she became the first horse to win the Arc and the Breeders’ Cup Turf in the same season, and her connections are hopeful that Enable will be able to continue to make history this season. She has won each of her three prep races, the G1 Coral-Eclipse, the G1 King George, and the G1 Yorkshire Oaks, ahead of her Arc bid.
Lining up against Enable are expected to be her long-time rival, Magical, who chased her home three times this season and tested Enable all the way to the wire beneath the Twin Spires at last year’s Breeders’ Cup. Other Aidan O’Brien-trained entrants are the talented Juddmonte International winner Japan and Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck.
The rest of the 16 remaining entrants are: Sottsass, Waldgeist, Musis Amica, French King, Silverwave, Ghaiyyath, Mehdaayih, Kiseki, Blast Onepiece, Fierement, Nagano Gold, and Matchwinner.
