Here Are All the Major LGBTQ+ Wins and Losses in the 2020 Election


 

If there’s one thing that we know for sure about the 2020 Election, it’s that it’s going to be a mess.

With this year’s historic volume of mail-in and absentee ballots, ongoing changes in state laws around vote counting, and the looming threat that Trump might throw a serious (and possibly violent) tantrum if he doesn’t win the votes he needs for reelection, many experts are warning that this year’s general election will be far from predictable.

There’s a good possibility that we’ll have to wait for an indeterminate period of time after election day before we know if Biden-Harris will win the ticket or if we will have to witness the Trump Administration dismantle LGBTQ+ and human rights for another four years. The Presidential seat is not the only one up for grabs: There’s a record-setting number of openly queer candidates running for elected positions in both state and local goverment, which means that the Rainbow Wave — described as a “Rainbow Tsunami” by Victory Fund CEO Annise Parker in our October cover story — even if it trickles in over a couple days.
