Hawks lose Trae Young but show perseverance in a season filled with adversity


There was a sense of existential dread as Trae Young clutched his left foot and writhed in pain on Madison Square Garden’s floor. Young pounded his fist three times on the court as he grimaced through his teeth with his teammates standing over him, hoping this wasn’t another injury for a team that has dealt with a constant stream of them.

“It’s not something you like or go into the season preparing for,” Nate McMillan said of the pileup of injuries. “Injuries are part of it. Unfortunately for us, we’ve just had a number of injuries throughout this season. Going down the stretch with 12 or 13 games remaining, we need bodies. We’re really limited with the bodies we have. I think these guys are giving us all they have. You’re playing a very tight schedule with games every other day. It’s a challenge for us.
