Halsey Shared A Mesmerizing New Trailer For Their Album Movie

Halsey is coming to the big screen — the really big screen.

The singer’s album movie If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, timed to the release of their forthcoming fourth album, will hit select IMAX theaters on August 25. The singer recently released a second trailer for the hour-long film, and let’s just say they’re far from The Chainsmokers now.

In the spooky trailer for the Trent Reznor-produced album, we see Halsey in various Victorian-inspired gowns navigating childbirth and waving a cautious “hello” to a shadowy figure in a mirror. The singer has previously revealed that the Atticus Ross-backed record is “about the lifelong social labyrinth of sexuality and birth,” and the latest preview goes all in on the eerie imagery.

She cycles through fantasy environments while sporting a whole host of lavish wigs, but something is clearly amiss in this dream world. A witch with whited-out eyes (played by queer icon Sasha Lane) grabs Halsey’s pregnant belly, they tiptoe into an armor room covered in bruises and blood, and a guillotine swings downward as Halsey sings, “I’m not a woman, I’m a god!”

The singer first announced If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power earlier this month, sharing cover art of themself seated on an ornate golden throne, wearing a flowing gown with a breast out and a baby on their lap.

“This album is a concept album about the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth,” Halsey wrote in a July 7 Instagram post accompanying the reveal, adding that “this image is my means of reclaiming my autonomy and establishing my pride and strength as a life force for my human being.”

She continued: “This cover image celebrates pregnant and postpartum bodies as something beautiful, to be admired. We have a long way to go with eradicating the social stigma around bodies & breastfeeding. I hope this can be a step in the right direction!”
