Grey Most Popular Color For Ford Mustang Mach-E First Edition

After the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E was unveiled back in November, it didn’t take long for all of the reservation slots for the limited First Edition model to fill up. Just nine days, in fact. While there are still plenty of other models available for pre-order – the Premium edition, for example, or the performance-minded GT – Ford is highlighting the end of this initial round of orders by revealing a few quick stats about the First Edition. And it turns out, people like grey.

Excuse me. Technically, people like “Carbonized Gray,” which is Ford’s fancy name for the grey electric vehicle you see above. Ford says 38 percent of all people pre-ordering a First Edition Mach-E are choosing Carbonized Grey, followed by Grabber Blue Metallic with 35 percent and Rapid Red filling out the rest of the First Edition orders at 27 percent. There are a total of eight colors available for the Mach-E line-up, but that Grabber Blue Metallic is only available on the First Edition models. The other seven colors – Space White, Iconic Silver, Shadow Black, Carbonized Gray, Infinite Blue Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, Star White Metallic Tri-Coat and Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat – are available on the Select, Premium, California RT.1 Edition and GT trims. The last three cost extra, as well, either $400 for the Clearcoats or $600 for the Star White Metallic paint job.

What’s probably more interesting for electric vehicle fans is learning what battery pack options people are choosing for their 2021 Mustang Mach-E pre-orders. Ford says that across all of the trim levels for the Mach-E, more than 80 percent of U.S. customers are reserving the EV with an Extended Range Battery, which adds around 60-70 miles of range for $5,000.

Ford offers four powertrain options for the Mach-E, two battery sizes and each of those in both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive versions. The standard battery RWD powertrain is the base model and offers 230 miles of range. Opting for AWD ups the price by $2,700 but cuts the official range to 210 miles. The long-range battery RWD model goes 300 miles and has a $5,000 price premium, while the long-range AWD model goes 270 miles and, as you can probably calculate, costs $7,700 more than the base powertrain. Not all powertrain options are available on each trim level.

On top of 80 percent choosing the long-range battery, Ford says that about 55 percent of the pre-orders are for all-wheel drive versions and almost 30 percent of U.S. customers are choosing the Mach-E GT trim. As you might suspect, over a quarter of all U.S. reservations are from people in California.
